I booked to go to Machu Picchu with Earth’s Edge in December 2016. We departed in September 2017 and the trip was a very memorable adventure. The training I had done paid off and I found that I was reasonably well able for the trekking and the climbing. The itinerary was very well planned and the time to acclimatise in Cusco was very welcome. It is such a different culture to Ireland, having a day and a half to explore Cusco and sample their food was lovely. The hotel we stayed in was very central and comfortable. Our guides – both Mike Jones, from Ireland and Edgar and Maruha from Peru were all absolutely fabulous. They prepared us well in terms of what to expect on each day’s trekking and they took exceptional care of us. The experience of hiking in The Andes is simply fabulous. We camped underneath a glacier on our first night camping and the starry sky overhead was incredible. We were able to see the Milky Way very clearly and some brilliant photos were taken of the sky. The following morning we climbed to the peak point of 4,600M and that was some experience. Again, the glacier was stunning and it was just so wonderful to be there. Earth’s Edge really do put a lot of thought and planning into their trips. The care and attention to detail that they put into their trips are well reflected in the experience of all involved in the trek. I have no hesitation in recommending Earth’s Edge and I will definitely go on another trip with them in the future. In fact, several of our group are planning another trip.
