Kilimanjaro Climb August 1st, 2018

My Kilimanjaro expedition with Earths Edge truly was one of the best experiences of my life, from the organisation and booking process, the pre departure weekend and the expedition itself; they’ve thought of everything and go above and beyond to make sure you are safe and well looked after. All you have to worry about is packing your bag, and getting yourself ‘pole pole’ to the summit, one step at a time. Having an experienced Irish guide and doctor as part of the trip was invaluable and gives you the the comfort to focus on your goal. The local team of guides and porters are just superheroes! Their strength and spirit are inspirational, they motivated and kept our spirits high on every step of the journey. It was so important to me that Earths Edge treat their local guides so well and we loved having a Nepalese Sherpa join us on our trip in Tanzania as a reward for excellent service in his workplace at Everest Base Camp. The food on the mountain was excellent and the tents were much more comfortable than I expected!! The mountain itself is spectacular and our guides were so knowledgeable about the changing terrain and ecology of the mountain. Summit day was one of the most challenging days of my life but that sense of motivation, achievement and camaraderie in our group made all the effort worthwhile. The feeling of standing at the roof of Africa is indescribable and one I will cherish for life. Thank you SO much to Mary, James, Walter and the local team and all at Earths Edge for this once in a lifetime experience. It really was a dream come true!
