Expedition Guides & Doctors

We are the only company in the world who have an experienced expedition leader and doctor on all expeditions while keeping group sizes sustainably small. Having an expedition leader and doctor allows us to deliver an unrivalled level of safety and service for each and every one of our clients. Here are the requirements for both roles;

Expedition Doctor Requirements
  • MBChB/MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full Medical Council Number with no restrictions on your practice or equivalent registration
  • Current ATLS or Pre Hospital Trauma qualification
  • Provide medical advice, dispense medication and services as required to all expedition members
  • An enthusiasm for adventure travel, wilderness medicine and the outdoors
  • A good level of fitness – you need to be fit enough to be able to assist others
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Calm under pressure
  • Understanding Earth’s Edge’s sustainability and leave no trace ethos
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, helpful and above all good fun!

Our expeditions range from climbing some of the largest mountains on the planet, to easy treks with only four to five hours of walking per day. Expedition durations typically range from 10 to 25 days. GPs and doctors with A&E or pre-hospital experience are preferable. We cover your expedition flights and most other expenses.

Expedition Leader Requirements
  • Mountain Leader Award or equivalent.
  • At the least a three-day wilderness first aid qualification.
  • Developing world travel experience.
  • Experience in leading groups.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Motivated by travel and the great outdoors.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, helpful and above all good fun!
  • For advanced expeditions; additional qualifications and logged experience may be required such as Winter ML, MIA, MIC, experience of trekking at high altitude or in remote locations.
